So, beside a possibility of an even more balanced and direct way of communicating with fans, what they do now just makes sense to me. They were on this trajectory for a while, before calling it quits entirely. More direct, time effective, meaningful and ultimately cheaper way of doing things. So why invest time, money, stress and risks into this show that is cringe as hell to begin with, when you can do it your own way entirely. You have to understand that E3 has an extra quality of a competition, and wether or not you have enough content to show at that given time in June of a given year, will affect the way general public thinks about you. Instead of adding it's own announcements to the pile of informational noise that is E3, Sony did well to distance it's brand from it and be more mindful about the time frames for information dumps about it's projects in development.
